Maeshine Summer 2019 Newsletter

Dear all,

We hope you're having a wonderful summer so far, we certainly have been! This season has been our busiest yet and we are absolutely thrilled to have had so many wonderful opportunities to share our music with you all. Thank you to each and every person who has come along and helped us along the way, it's been a joy to get to know so many new friends, and also to spend time with some old ones. We really couldn't do this without all your love and support.

We kicked off the summer at NVTV studios, featuring on the fantastic local show Talk Like That with Karen Mooney – both of us had the most amazing time chatting with Karen and showcasing a few of our songs, which you can watch on THIS LINK. We then had the chance to play an intimate gig in one of our favourite places, Solstice Holywood, framed by the serene crystals and singing bowls on display there. It was a delight to play in such a cosy and relaxing space and we cannot thank Mandy and Graham enough for inviting us along.

May saw the start of our Tranquillity Evenings in the Columbanus Room in the parish centre of Bangor Abbey, where applause is replaced with gentle soundscapes linking each song and the listener can focus on relaxation. We received a warm, enthusiastic response to these, as can be seen in some of the reactions we've had from people who attended:

“It made me feel so peaceful and I really needed a moment in my life to be still.”

“It’s so beautiful to hear the combination of your voices, uplifting words and heavenly instruments. I feel really happy and tranquil now.”

“That was just pure love. I feel more relaxed than I have done in a long time.”

“The calm serenity of the whole evening has touched my heart in the most beautiful way.”

We cannot put into words just how blessed we felt sharing our songs with everyone there in such a gentle and soothing way, we felt so much love from you all and our hearts were so full throughout. It’s been wonderful to compose new songs and instrumentals for these special evenings. Our next night will be on the 28th of August, with tickets available throughTicketsource.

We have also been lucky enough to host a Gentle Peace Relaxation session in the beautiful and peaceful surroundings of Live. Love Yoga in Bangor – such an open and welcoming environment to share our soothing and calming music within. These sessions differ from our regular Tranquillity evenings in that you can lie down and just allow the relaxing notes to wash over you. We were blown away by the response to this event and cannot wait to share a new programme of songs with you at the next one on 6th September.

It's always such a treat to play in Bangor Carnegie Library, and we were so thrilled to play a part in their Midsummer Evening event in June. We heard such beautiful stories, poems and art from Bangor Scribes, Gail Johnston, Kate G Smeltzer, with the added delight of the artwork Rosie Haghighi created for the Gentle Peace album. The feeling of joyful togetherness was very touching.

After the launch of our album in Bangor Abbey in March we felt a calling to return there, so we were delighted to be part of their season of summer concerts. Huge thanks to Gifford Savage for all his help and support, and for allowing us to pull him on stage to read his spectacular poem!

We loved sharing our Gentle Peace Concert / Art Exhibition further afield at Carnlough Festival, welcomed so warmly by all the fabulous staff at the Londonderry Arms Hotel, with the most wonderful addition of an introduction by Liz Weir MBE. We look forward to bringing the art and music together again during the Fermanagh Live Festival in September (dates to be announced).

We also had the best time performing at the EastSide Arts Festival in Tullycarnet Library, with over 100 people there to watch some magical performances by local storytellers and poets. The next evening we attended the Poetry and Pints event in Fealty's as part of Open House festival - such a lively and fun night, can't wait to play again at the next one on 27th August! (Thank you Amy & Paul!)

What else is new? Well, we'll be holding a "Maeshine Interactive Session" this autumn and will keep you posted once we have a date and venue. This will be a participatory occasion for well-being where the audience is gently guided to sing, move, laugh, be still and musically creative with us. It will make us very happy for people to join in and you are also welcome if you prefer to just listen. We will intersperse the session with some of our songs for you to just relax to.

As well as public events we welcome bookings for closed events and if you or your group have a special morning, afternoon or evening in mind, please contact Nad on 07966 448896 and he will be happy to give you further details.

All upcoming events are listed below and they will be regularly updated on our website here.

As always, we look forward to seeing you and welcoming you at one of our upcoming events soon. In the meantime we wish you well-being and gentle peace now and always.

With warmest love,

Inge & Anna
